I’m currently driving the car but planning this winter project. The flywheel has been resurfaced (1974) and it is at the min thickness. Does it make any difference using a new flywheel that doesn’t have the 1 inch high ring around the clutch surface area? Aalsi any recomendations?
I would like to buy the exact original but they are not out there.

Many people (me included) use the Merc flywheel that doesn't have that ring which limits you to a 9" clutch. This allows you to have a 10" clutch but maybe that doesn't matter to you. Those stock Ford flywheels are around NOS as there are better alternatives.
