Default 51 M1 Clutch pressure plate torque

Good afternoon everyone, I am replacing the clutch on my truck, and wondering if anyone knows what the correct torque is for the bolts.

Thank you

Here you go. Van Pelt site has torque data that may help.

If your M1 is like my Mercury flywheel and clutch, it takes 3/8" shouldered bolts. The standard Ford, which I assume Van pelt's chart addresses, uses 5/16" bolts. I used a bolt torque chart to torque mine.

The pickups were equipped with the same drive trains as the Ford counterpart in Canadian production. The differences were in body and trim between Mercury and Ford pickups. Mercury and Monarch cars were the same way only with Mercury drive train.

Thanks 19forty. I torqued mine to 20lbs and two snapped. I stopped there, I guess I better replace all the bolts with new.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that your bolts snapped. What size bolts did you use? 5/16 or 3/8

That torque would be for a grade 8 type fastener. If they were replaced with less than that then it would likely result in a twist off.

They are 5/16 bolts. Original to the truck I believe. I think I will replace all the bolts and hopefully that will solve that issue
