Default 8BA Crank Pulley?

I'm reading the board and my flathead books every day, but it takes a while to find everything. How about valve clearance? I've begun assembly of stock engine, I see gaps that are all over the place. Guess I'll write em all down and use an average?

On the pully: I have somewhat mismatched parts. My pulley is double wide belt, has the scroll which seems to be built in. Pulley is bent and scroll clearly worn. My best fan is narrow belt, generators I got one of each. Have not bought water pumps yet, but am leaning to narrow belt for my 50 coupe.

Looking at pics on ebay and elsewhere, I see pulleys without the scroll. So I'd need a separate scroll/sleeve? And then one of my books mentions a modern seal, which I guess would take just a smooth sleeve? Thanks for any thoughts!

Valve clearance is determined by the cam, the cam grinder/supplier establishes the clearance. There is also a difference between normal retainers and rotators.

Some like the o-ring seals (which use a smooth surface) and some don't. There are new pulleys available if you are needing one. Believe some of the NOS suppliers have them as well as good used ones.

Yes, I'll look at the cam info again. Having posted the above, now I've just seen a picture of the separate scroll piece so that clears that up. I haven't seen one for sale anywhere, but I'll look. Thanks!

Try VanPelt for pulleys (there are others). http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/e...prices-pg2.htm

I looked at van Pelt, only saw wide belt. I think I'll order his water pumps, though.

I'm not an 8ba guy, but think the PN is 8BA-6362. Looks like C&G has them.

VanPelt has them as well: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/F...ranksleeve.jpg

I just logged back on to ask what do I need for a parts book. Asked on another thread but don't think anybody saw it. Got a lot of books, but no parts book cause I didn't know just what I was looking.

You beat me on that number!

The Green Book is great for up thru 48. I'm sure there is a similar reference for the later years, but I don't know the name/source.

Looks like they exist (big surprise), but I don't see a reprint or CD version. Might try one of the Shoe Box suppliers.

The 8BA-6312-C or there abouts is the narrow belt crank pulley sheave. Here is a recent link. https://www.ebay.com/itm/flat-head-f...paKzp~&vxp=mtr

They will work with the Ford or Mercury fan in the 50 thru 53 time frame.

I have all the various pulleys. Which water pumps are you going to use? PM me if you need a pulley.
