new old car for me
Well, I bought an A. I wanted a tudor, but ended up with a '29 cabriolet convertible. I felt that since there were only a little over 16,000 '29 cabriolets made, it was a good car to start with and my wife and I love the looks of it. I have a question. Were all '29 cabriolets made for people with tiny feet? The bench seat sticks out so we have to turn our feet sideways to get into the car. I don't remember the coupes that I had having so little foot room when you get in. Of course, it's been 60 years since my last A, but I sure didn't have that problem with my '34 convertible with its suicide doors.

Hi Wingski. Welcome to the Barn Yes they are all tight. I step in with my right foot in first, then sit and drag in the left foot. I don't use the running board. Any other way and I get my foot caught between the seat and door frame. And my seat in moved back ~3". This is with my Town Sedan. My wife's feet ate smaller so she just sits in the seat and swings her legs in. Another problem I have is when coming to a stop and putting the trans in 1st I can't get my foot off the brake because my knee hits the steering wheel. I had to bend the shifter ~1.5" to the right. Enjoy your Cabi... We like pictures. Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 08-04-2017 at 07:19 PM. |

Re: new old car for me
Welcome. I'm 6'5", left foot is hard to get through door. I also had to have shifter bent to the passenger side. 29 Sport Coupe.
Don't pull on steering wheel getting into car. Will cause problems with tank. Enjoy your car. |

Re: new old car for me
I am 6', have a Coupe and do just like Y-Blockhead...I step in with my right foot in first, then sit and drag in the left foot.
Works for me. People in those days must have been smaller.

Re: new old car for me
Hey guys, thanks for responding. I don't see how you tall guys do it. I'm 5'8" with size 9 feet and it's hard for me to get my feet in. I will send pictures as soon as my wife wakes up. I'm a clutz with computers. Another question. Do all the windows on cabriolets stick up about an inch when down? Thanks again.

No, they should go down flush with the sill.

Thanks Ray. What is going on? The windows don't seem to be binding. Here are a couple of pictures of the A when I bought it.

Looks Great!...Even the neighbors came out to look..
You might just need to exercise those windows a little..mine would not go all the way down until they were repeatedly gently persuaded....

Re: new old car for me
Wingski,
Now you know where the comment came from, "I don't get in my Model A, I wear it." It's a tight fit for most of us with 28-29 models. The 31 Slant Windshield Town Sedans are probably the most roomy. We have a 1929 Phaeton, I'm 6'2" and weigh 260 lbs. I'm sandwiched in the car pretty tightly. But as others mentioned, you develop a routine getting in and out of the cars, so it gets easier with time. |

Re: new old car for me
SEARCH for "RACIN' SEATS" & see what I did for MORE room.

Re: new old car for me
I'm 6'5" and 240lbs.
I have a 30 Coupe. Getting my left foot in was a reall pain until I stumbled upon setting my Rt foot in 1st then swinging my torso inside and with my left foot still on the ground - hike my butt up off the seat and then swing my left footin. Sound like a gymnasts move but it's really pretty easy. Yes the idea of heating up the shifter and putting a a little bend in it sound real smart. Nice looking car! |

Just curious. Do the extra driving lights turn with the wheels? Jack
