34 Ford Bolts on cowl / door reinforcement panels correct?
I need help on my 34 3W coupe bolt/screw situation regarding the cowl and the upper door jamb covers and door reinforcement /pillar panels.
Cowl: Q: are the boltnuts meant to show on the outside of the cowl and are they the correct ones ? Q: Are these boltnuts painted car colour or do they show steel finish Door reinforcement panels Q: where do i get the correct size /length/finish screws for these panels? Q: Are they painted in car colour or do they show their steel finish ? Help is much appreciated, since i have no reference. Thanks Last edited by fordson; 05-02-2019 at 03:41 PM. |

Re: 34 Ford Bolts on cowl / door reinforcement panels correct?
Randolf, Regarding the firewall - they are the nuts for the 1/4" shoulder bolts that hold the firewall pad to the firewall and correct .I believe painted the color of the firewall.Regarding the door jamb upper panels they are counter sunk slotted oval head wood screw and I believe painted the color of the car.The 2 together at the begining of the door jamb upper panel are to be slotted pan head not countersunk and not phillips head. You are also missing 1 of the 2 caps. The entire interior trim screw set is available from the vendors. Here is a pic of my upper door jamb.Finish on the fasteners are not correct but I like the detail.

Re: 34 Ford Bolts on cowl / door reinforcement panels correct?
Sheldon,
The firewall insulator was added to the body after it was painted and the attaching fasteners were, therefore, not painted, body color or otherwise, but rather had what Ford called an S-2 finish which is black oxide. The door pillar screws were installed before the body was painted and therefore were painted the same color as the surrounding surfaces. As you noted, Ford did not use any Phillips head fasteners in that era. |
