There was some discussion on the Cabriolet website a long time ago.
I believe Bill Strum had made some up at one time. The last of it was used up when I called about it (I believe Arlyn got it for his wonderfully restored cabriolet). I am not doing a show car so I will not go through the added expense of making my own.
The reason for the loctite is the offsetting. Normal binding is nailed to the center so it equally covers the area. Loctite is offset so it can cover more towards the bottom. This hides more area of interface. As I understand it the loctite is prone to flipping over and the covering flap needs to be glued down.
Go to Bob's, currently way under used, cabriolet forum and you can do some searches. Here are a couple of interesting links I found.
