Reading through all this good (& questionable) info, it sounds like a much bigger job than $250-$300 by the time it's re & re'ed, cleaned, dried, sealed and repainted.
I'd A) fix the gauge in car
or B) make sure the clean & seal person knows what they're doing and be prepared to pay more.
