I'm glad Jim mentioned that. I forgot to come back on last night to give my thoughts on the reason for the foot rest, but I believe in the days of dirt and gravel roads it might be real handy. I almost never use mine, but don't mind it being mounted where it is, and as Jim said, it comes in handy on rough roads.
