My 39 seat back is hinged at the top. Then you can lift the seat bottom to gain access to the jack and tools under the seat. However, my pickup was originally a stake bed and the gas tank is under the seat. The 38 - 39 pickup seats that I have seen are one piece and the seat slides back and forth to only 2 or 3 positions. The gas tank is in the rear and the filler is through the left rear fender.
