Question Stewart Warner Horn - Not sounding good

I have gone through my SW horn, cleaning the contacts, replaced brushes, adjusted, oiled, etc.

This past weekend we joined with 37 other pre-WWII vehicles for a car show at the Village of Winona (there were 19 Model A's)

Everybody's Klaxon-type horns sounded very similar with the classic aaah-OOO-gah sound; except for mine.

My horn sounds like AHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhh-guh.

I have tried to tighten the adjustment one click at a time - and after two clicks it sounds more like uhhhhh-guh (if the armature spins at all.)

Loosening and it sounds more like ah--hh-hhh-hhhhh-hh - gah

- I have tried this with the cover off and on. same results.

- I replaced the diaphragm and rotated it 180 degrees and it's still the same.

- I tried to rotate the diaphragm 90 degree and it wouldn't work at all.

At this point, I've resigned myself to a horn that sounds like a screaming goose.

Ideas?
