Default Re: Crazy idea of the day

Denny, here is some text from the Road Kill article.
I couldn't get the video to load for me, anyway here's some text.

They said it would never work. "They" being Internet keyboard commandos, "it" being using garden-store leaf blowers to supercharge an engine for more power. We, however, have proven that you can make more power on the dyno by cramming extra air and fuel into an engine with gas-powered leaf blowers; we did it on our "Vette Hack" car in the Nov. '10 issue. What we didn't know was if the power gains would add up to speed on a real track. In a recent episode of our Roadkill show, we found out the fun way.
Buying a 1978 Chevy Monza Spyder with a small-block and a four-speed, we took it to the shop of HOT ROD Drag Week superhero Jeff Lutz in Callery, Pennsylvania, and laughed our tailpipes off as we mounted five Husqvarna huffers under the hatch and piped 'em to a carburetor hat. We made almost 20 hp and 20 lb-ft throughout the power curve! Once the rubber smoke cleared a little, we rolled to the ECTA's standing-mile race in Wilmington, Ohio, (see the coverage on page 90) and conducted some marginally less than scientific testing that proved (spoiler alert) virtually nothing! With the blowers fired up, the car gained maybe 1 to 2 mph in top speed. Why so little? Probably because the leaf blowers work best at low engine speeds when less air is being consumed, and they are less effective for the constant, high-rpm pull of the standing mile.
Was this all worth $1,600 in blowers? No! Do we care? No! Because, frankly, on Roadkill we get paid to have stupid fun with cars for no practical reason, and you don't pay anything at all to watch and laugh. With us or at us—your call. The leaf-blower episode is at 320,000 views and counting, with an even mix of guys who don't get it and those who think it's the most hilarious episode yet. Go decide for yourself: watch by going to YouTube.com/MotorTrend and searching "Roadkill Episode 16." You have to do it if for no other reason than to read the comments with a variety of wacky theories about how leaf blowers will or won't really perform. We think we'll have outdone ourselves with episode 17 by the time you read this, so watch that, too.
You read about the Roadkill show with leaf-blower superchargers, so now ask yourself how we could possibly score corporate backing for those hijinks. Yup, thanks to both Dickies and Gunk for sponsoring upcoming episodes.
