I think I read that with the depression hitting, France upped the required local content. We also had strange rules to do with window glass etc. to make it harder to import vehicles, up until fairly recent times.
I'm a big fan of Marchal. Their reflectors on their big rally lights could create a perfect pencil beam for what seemed to go for miles, and set fire to koalas in the trees.
