I take all the bolts out of the mechanism that attach to the cowl vent lid. I then cover the cowl vent with some old towels and use weights(cans of bolts) to set on top of the vent lid. I let it set for a couple of days and then attach the mechanism while the cans are still holding down the lid. the reason I let it set for a couple of days is so the lid compresses the gasket if it is a new gasket.
