Default Re: Torque Tube & Rear Motor Mount Safety Wire

I would be interested in knowing how the torque tubes were wired at the factory. I have taken hundreds of them apart and found them wired in all kinds of zig zag patterns and using various sizes of wire. I have never found one wired such as you would find in aircraft safety wiring..

When I do a restoration I install the six torque tube bolts so that when tight the hole in the head of each bolt is parallel to the torque tube. This requires a trial and error effort to find a bolt for each hole that is tight when parallel. I have a large supply of original bolts I aquired over the years. It is tedious and time consuming, but when finished I am able to lace the wire through the holes in a perfect circle. I pass the wire through the top bolt in opposite directions, twist the ends together and cut and bend the ends back over the flange about a quarter inch. It may not be according to Henry, but it looks very neat and orderly.
