Uncle Bob, the snout length on the 36 spindle is the same distance as the 37-48. The difference is in the drums and the backing plates. The index is different with the 35/6 brake surface centering further inward than the later 37 and up style so the 36 hub has a longer snout to index the braking area further inward.
