Ford, Edison, Firestone and Burroughs I believe were big into camping in the mid-late 20s (Edison died in 1931)

I say camping advisedly. Their idea of camping was a 20 to 80 person "entourage" with support staff and drivers. They would have a route, and publicity would post ahead so the news people could keep up with them.

But Ford and Edison particularly seemed to revel in the travail. Ford and Edison would poke around power plants and junkyards where Henry always took some delight seeing the Chevrolet's and makes other than Ford.



They styled themselves "The Four Vagabonds."
