Re: Origin of "Tin Lizzie/Lizzy"?
Very common at the turn of the century that the more well-to-do persons had hired help in the household. Those helpers, usually young women were known as "Lizzies" or the shortened common name of Elizabeth.
As only the well-off could afford the new fangled automobiles of the time, ......when Henry Ford brought out his low-cost popular car for the masses, a car that would do farm work, and city errands, or tours in the country, it only became apparent that such a car as the Model T was a 'helper' for the household.
Therefore the moniker "Tin Lizzie" was born.......a 'robotic' like family helper....
