The nice thing about the aluminum powder is it stays in motion if there are no holes (leaks) to fill. The Barrs, while a good product will eventually settle in
somewhere. Perhaps where it could cause cooling problems.
Cadillac started using a form of the aluminum powder back in the 1980's. They had a huge problem with intake manifold leaks. Unbeknown to Cadillac owners that visited the dealer for service, the technicians were advised to add a tablet (GM equivalent of the powder) to every model having these engines regardless of the reason the car was in the shop.
