I've got a 49 F1 pickup that has the Ford flathead 6 engine with a light duty 3 speed tranny behind it. I am wondering if a Flathead V8 will bolt in where the inline 6 now resides, or if I would I have to install a different bell housing etc. for the V8 engine?

The Flathead 6 could probably be made to run, as it turns over with the starter, but the V8 is just a bit more appealing to me. Don't the inline 6 engines get any respect these days?
