And that's a great part of the reason the threads were really hard to machine. If these spindles were made by Henry's boys they were machined with high speed steel because carbide wasn't around.
But let's really look at the parts again. They look worn into the shape they're in and the threads look like they were chased with a die and torn to the shape they're in.
