I remember those still in use in the late 50's, but that must have been about the end of the line for mail being scooped off the pole.
I never had much of a problem with broken and lost packages until the past 25 years or so.
Now it's so bad that I won't even buy a lot of things on ebay because I know they will be damaged during transit.
