I went and looked in the intake valley again. I think that "hole" is just the way the photo looks. I found no hole above the main cam gear either from the inside or outside of the block....

I am not a carb expert so I apologize for what may be a simple question...

But the test of the accelerator pump is easy isn't it? All I should have to do is have the engine running at idle...
