Had the same problem. What I did was to take any excess out of the cable and housing. The cable isn't trying to straighten out the housing or other words the cable isn't fighting the housing.

I used an MGB dual wiper system and had a two speed. Cost is is low and you wind up one or two wipers that make a strong contact on the glass. 12 volt only.

Use common sense. How much weight do you want hanging out there. It takes very little weight to flip that block. Just because he jumped off the bridge and survived doesn't you'll make it.

If your using water you can add food coloring to the water. Letting set for a couple of days you'll find any leaks. Or you can purchase radiator leak detector and find it with a florestent light.
