Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

Success! I apparently have resolved the short in my wiring, so my head and tail lights are all working.

I had a lot of bare wires in the left rear wheel well. Taping those up was one of the...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

My first taste of success! The brake lights are working. Two problems that I discovered: 1. misconnected wire, 2. poor connection through the bullet connector. Now on to the headlight and tail...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

Thanks for the new drawing. I will need to compare with what I have under the dash. I probably won't get time to do that until the weekend.

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

There is a gray plastic wrapped wire that goes from inside the car to the brake switch. I suspect that is the one that goes from the turn signal, but I have not traced it, yet. As I mentioned...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

The turn signal is wired directly off of the fuse block.

Given the heating up of the fuse block, would that indicate that there might be a short or something is wired incorrectly in the interior?...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

On second look, it does not appear that the generator has a ground. See attached photo. Reading previous threads, it seems that I should install a ground wire from the generator to where the VR...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

Kahuna, you may be right. Who makes the best quality switch, in case I decide to go that route?

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

I looked and it appears that there is a ground wire from the generator, but I did not trace it completely. It was lunch time! There was a wire from the back of the generator going into the wiring...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

Next installment:

I removed the battery and cleaned all the ground connections. I found what I would call a jury rig arrangement. The ground goes to the firewall where there is a braided cable...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

The ground was going to be the first thing I was going to check on, but you know how that goes.

The turn signals are wired through the tail lights. I will look at how they are wired, too. I did...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

Latest installment. The light switch is back together. The horn works now and the lights pretty much work like they did before. Stop lights do not work. I noted, again, that when the headlights...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

I wonder whether I have the wrong light harness as there are only six wires? I did see where the blue/yellow wire connects to the horn contact in the center.

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

Then it appears that mine is connected properly. I can see where it does not matter which of the wires is connected to the groups of three. This is not really good news in that the fix is not in...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

As to the position of the headlight switch, Turned all the way to the left, the parking lights and one tail light was on. 1st click to right - nothing on - off position. 2nd click to right -...

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

I used a test light on the wires into the stop light switch. No juice on either one.

Boy it was hard to take photos of what I found, but here are the best I :

Re: 39 Deluxe light wiring

Thanks, JS. The wiring diagram makes more sense now. I am a novice at this, so it will take a while. The brake lights don't work, either, which is what worries me most. I will not drive it until I...

39 Deluxe light wiring

I have started to diagnose the problems with the lights on my 39 Deluxe sedan. When I started, only the parking lights and the left rear tail light would work but only on the parking setting and it...
