Re: Ford Life car

Two things to add here. Lawrie is being modest here. I've been reading through the Ford barn backwards from post #1 forward lately, and he has driven his '33 on much worse roads than that one!...

Re: The 1939 Windshield Frame

Thank you for correcting this misinformation, which was reversed in the craggy recesses of the old brain. My apologies! I find it better to keep my mouth shut most of the time . . .

Re: The 1939 Windshield Frame

'39 splits in the middle, earlier frames split in the lower half. So the one you currently have is likely a '37-'38 replacement. Any '37-'39 will fit either car or truck.

Re: 1934 Ford 1 1/2 ton Truck Tires

Just today mounted up a pair of Lucas 600-20 tires (from Lucas tire in Long Beach CA) for the front of my buddy's '39 1-1/2 ton. Would have preferred the 650-20 Firestones, but at about $115 cheaper...

Re: 1938 Truck Windshield Frame parts

If you find them, I'd like to see them. I made a pair from a couple of steel hinges, cut down and rolled over a bit. Not too pretty, but functional for the time being.

Missed Lindbergh by only eight years - no wonder you are such a trove of valuable information.

Re: aluminum radiators

Nice piece for the price, eh? And the diesel and chassis look to be made for each other. But the bench and shop wall is almost as interesting. We definitely share the same organizational plan! And...

Re: aluminum radiators

Couple more things. I would agree with Leon that, if anything, the Champion cools too well. it came with a 15 lb cap, which I immediately replaced with a 7 lb cap, and wonder if that might still be a...

Re: aluminum radiators

Have had a Champion on my ‘40 coupe for a few years now. Had to fab up some mounts for the yoke carriage bolts on the side at the time — newer ones may include them? Anyway, solved all my overheating...

Re: Junior Johnson Passes On

Well, best course of action is to disregard or delete this thread, and head over to the hamb if you want to hear about Junior Johnson's life and legacy.

Has more to do with "what I did on my lunch...

Re: Junior Johnson Passes On

There is a German expression, "ins Fett getreten" that I think applies here. Stepped in some grease (and tracked it all over the place).

Oops, or source, but gawd either way!?!

Calls for a...

Re: Still Amazing how things happen

Amazing, you must have done something right in a former life!

I'd like a pair about two feet long for the '39 1-1/2 ton . . .

Re: 215 85 16s

No offense intended for your valid points, blucar. Don't think anyone here is out to endanger anyone's life.

Just meant that perhaps a slightly oversized tire on an early rim supporting a 2800...

Re: 215 85 16s

Any of these tires are technically too wide for a four-inch rim. That prompted my question as to whether they were being mounted on the early rims or later five or 5 1/2 inch rims.

Sorry if I...

Re: 215 85 16s

Yeah, section width and tread width can be two different measurements, and most of these tires I've been researching seem to be lacking detailed measurements.

Overall diameter shows the 215's to...

Re: 215 85 16s

Yeah, always thought some chromed Conestoga wagon wheels would be just the thing on lowered Cadillac. Yech!

Anyway, I think your used tire idea is a great way to try them out and see how I like...

Re: 215 85 16s

Thanks Stenny, those 205-16's sound good on the 4-inch rims. Just have to see if I can find some somewhere. The 215's seem a bit more plentiful.

Re: 215 85 16s

Are you guys running these on four-inch rims? Don't know exactly when the rims got wider, as my experience ends at 1940.

Looking at tires for my '40 coupe, and shaking my head at the price and...

Re: The '37 Dually is finally coming together

Just now working on a quite rusty '39 windshield frame that wouldn't budge with soaking, heat, and so forth. Finally resorted to a jeweler's saw to cut the two halves apart. This works quite well,...

Re: Before and After

Ok GB, your on! Not much change here, but painted the bed and sanded and oiled the wood. Oh, and used your time-honored painting techniques to blend in some rust clean up around the windshield...

Hey BobH,

Too bad the old man is no longer with us, as I'm sure he could answer your question, and I'm willing to wager I have a pair of those glass packs on my '40. These were installed by...

Henry Ford (and Charles Lindbergh) received the Cross of the German Eagle in 1938:

Rumors circulated in the early 1920s that Ford was pouring money into the Nazi Party but Hitler denied the...
