Don't lubricate the spark plugs. They require a good ground.

I'm with Denny on this. An Optima can be mounted beneath the floor without modifications. It can be mounted at an angle.
I did this recently in a '34 as well as a '36.
They do last for many years...

In my opinion, there is no reason to not purchase the best of the sets you'd found.
When installing, be certain to use composite gaskets. Also, I'd suggest you coat each stud with Anti-Seize®.

There was no seal like that in 1940 and just because Drake claims it to be "improved" doesn't mean it's any good and / or...

Some easy to do tasks that are paramount to having the car start up well: Each and every ground must be very clean and tight.
Make sure you have heavy battery cables designed for 6v systems....

Aluminum cools a little better than steel. Worth the additional cost? Probably not.
Cast iron heads are plentiful and rather reasonable in price. Figure out if you need a head for flat or domed...

Originally, one seal was glued to the body and the other seal to the door.

The top piece goes on the body, not the door. The "foot" of the "L" extends out, away from the body. It does not tuck in the channel. It begins just above the upper door hinge and runs back to the B...

Ralph, I'd done a concourse restoration on a '46 coupe a few years back and like you, was forced to cut open the rockers to access the caged nuts. Not too bad when the body was on the rotisserie...

The "after restoration" photo is overexposed. Rest assured the blue V8 is much darker in real life.

Seth is spot on. I place the cap over a thick towel to "catch" the stainless part.
