Re: Transmission Roller Bearings

I recently went through roller bearing failure for the third time. It seems they last 30,000+ to 40,000 miles, which means removing the transmission every 30K just to replace them, hopefully...

Re: Sticking Valves

I unstuck valves in a 27 Lincoln by adding MMO to the oil (The correct percentage is stated on the bottle.) And into the gasoline.

Re: The Jeffery Automobile Company

I do service work for a collector in Santa Cruz who has a 1914 Jeffery with the big 6 cylinder engine. It's an amazingly well engineered car. One of the fascinating aspects of it is the starter: The...

Re: Fuel tank cleaning

if its dried gasoline, a radiator shop chemical boil out will do it. But if its rust or old tank sealer, the baffles will prevent any large media from getting at all the rust or liner behind the...

Re: hard steering

is the steering box full of grease or gear oil? grease will make it hard.

Should be 600w, but since thats not really available and anyway they leak a lot, Pennrite steering lube is preferred.

Re: 31 Slant Window firewall badge placement?

my august 31 SW has no manufacturers plate either. Its a briggs, but I only know that from the briggs bug on the dash rail framing and from the rear window registers

tire blow out on trip to walla walla

one of my new Coker Classic 6:50 16s blew out the side wall in Susanville today, on the grade to Alturas, along a 1000 foot drop off with no shoulder. Not funny. The tire has less than 3000 miles on...

Re: Tight engine UPDATE

First thing I thought was starter. It might have had enough power to turn over the old engine with poor compression, but now it is too weak. Check grounds, contacts, brushes, commutator, bearings or...

pre 31 gas tanks had the steering column clamp soldered and riveted to the tank. 31 columns are suspended from the dash rail and the tanks have no clamp. Commercial cowl bands are painted, not...

Re: Mitchell 26% or 36%?

to some degree it also depends on the body type. A roadster is much lighter than a woodie wagon. Higher gears might work OK on a roadster. On my wagon, there is a 33% Borg Warner with a 3:78 rear,...

Re: Drum brake ovality?

Lucas, it sounds like you are reluctant to do whats necessary to get good brakes. Of course the seller would tell you the brakes are "rebuilt". Most replies here are telling you the truth: those are...

Re: radius rod ball

its a challenge, but you can get them out. Pull the wishbone down and block it with a piece of wood to get clearance, remove the top ball socket, pull the small retainer pin, pull out the felt if...
