Re: Newbie with '29 RPU

Many AV8s have been put together but it is a lot of work. The Bishop/Tardel book describes the way a lot of folks did it back in the day. The HAMB has a lot more information about such mods. It's a...

Re: 1928-29 Sport Coupe/Spec Coupe Body Belt Trim

If your looking to buy or sell, the swap meet section is the place. If not, what do you want to know?

Must have moved to the swap meet.

Re: The absolute 'MINIMUM' cylinder wall thickness....

I don't know the average original cylinder wall thickness but I do know that the distance between the pairs of cylinders is very narrow. A person can have issues getting the cylinder head gasket to...

Re: A call for help to the electrical specialists.

Amp meters don't care what the voltage is, I would change to a 30-amp meter using an alternator but you really will only see what the battery is drawing to recharge. Once it is charged back to a...

Re: The absolute 'MINIMUM' cylinder wall thickness....

I've always figured that 1/8" is about as thin as a person should go when calculating to a bore job. Some sleeves are 1/8" and some are as thick as 3/16" and in some cases the sleeve is about all...

Re: Newbie with '29 RPU

Folks call them roadster pickups but the were really just an open cab pickup. Some folks modify the bottom rear of the top with snap fasteners so that is can be removed. Others make custom folding...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

Itslow has a point. For spring over axle a person would have to use a narrow rear spring than fits over the mid section (unobtanium). Extend the frame 7.5" to include a crossmember for behind axle...

Re: The 60-A, B, C Fordor Sedans

This is an old thread. Some of the original posters don't frequent the forum much anymore, including the original poster, and at least one is no longer with us. I would suggest starting a new thread...

Re: Newbie with '29 RPU

I believe that the back of the cab wall had either had vertical wood supports or horizontal. I think the seat back cushion attached to them. See Link.

The cab corners look almost complete as far...

Re: Spotlights on a 1950 Ford

Try plain old mineral spirits. That stuff even loosens rtv. I use Lubriplate 130AA for door latches and other smaller mechanisms that get wet on occasion. It's NGLI-1 so it's less viscous than most.

Re: Flat head back firing pop. pop over and over

Intake valves don't stick as often as the exhausts do. Compression check will tell which ones are sticking if that's the problem.

Backfire by definition is when the engine coughs back through the...

Re: Fuse blowing

Ford used auto reset circuit breakers from the 30s clear up into the 50s. Early cars burned up mostly due to no circuit protection at all. Fuses will do the job but a person should carry a spare and...

Re: Balancing wire wheels with steel plate welded inside

If any amount of weight is added to one point on a rim then it will take an equal amount of weight 180 degrees apart from the added weight to balance it out. A good bubble balancer can be used....

Re: Original cost of 1931 Sport Coupe?

The prices dropped as the depression grew darker. In 1930 the retail list price was $550.00. It dropped by $50 for 1931.

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

Most of them use the A axle and wheels so they can have the juice brake but stock look.

I wonder how many quick change axles have been narrowed for custom race applications. Nothing is new under...

Re: C59A Generator Amp Info/Wiring Gauge

If the engine is mostly rubber mounted then the engine drive assembly should be grounded to the battery and the frame. A lot of the battery installations in late flatheads had the battery grounded to...

Re: Magneto and belts

I can't tell for sure but the Photo in posts 51/52 looks like a crab type cap. That would be a 1942 type set up or a modified rabbit ear distributor. With centrifugal advance and a vacuum brake they...

Re: Recommended Turning Signal Switch

Some folks will pay the big bucks for the old Signal State 700 Burn Out Proof units. There are still old SigFlare 900 units out there in pretty good shape. The new Signal Stat 900 models are good...

Re: '51 o/d cable holder

I can't speak on the Fords but my 51 Mercury has a tapped bolt hole above and centered between the shift arms on the side cover where a bolt and clamp attach to secure the cable housing.

Re: Business coupe oval windows?

I've seen quite a few older car tops that have multiple back light glasses inset in side by side fashion.

The complete 29 Sport Coupes quarter oval windows are just mounted to the top material....

I've seen the bare frames before but I've not seen any with glass and what looks to be suspenders. Any of you 1929 Business Coupe owners have insight on those suspenders. The screws that hold the...
