Re: How to shift the COLUMBIA?

Haven’t figured out how to shift mine. It’s in low range. Do I pull the cable to shift to OD?

Re: How to shift the COLUMBIA?

Do you push down or pull up to shift? The car is in non-OD right now.

How to shift the COLUMBIA?

I’ve got a 29 coupe, with a Columbia two speed axle. The canister on the axle has a cable and a plugged (vacuum?) hose. There is a shift knob on the floor. I assume you pull this to activate. Any...

Re: A first for me....

My '50 vapor locked in an iffy part of town, in the middle of an intersection. Some high school kids were milling around and started walking toward the car. I figured I was in trouble until they...

Re: Cars with original radios

I used the orange caps too. Curious why you need a buffer cap with a solid state vibrator? There's no sparking in those.

Thank God we have a good country station here. Never could stand that 50s...

Re: Cars with original radios

Be sure you recap your old radios before using them too much. Failing caps can take out resistors and other stuff.

I put a solid-state vibe unit in my '50, replaced a couple burnt up resistors...

Re: Engine wont turn over

X3, 2 years in storage, you have a dead battery.

Re: Brake fluid

Bleed the system, fill with DOT 3. Dot 5 requires complete flush and/or replace components. Don't put DOT5 in a DOT3 system.

Re: Carb issues with a new Holley 94

Been there, done that, especially the fuel leaking part. What I did:

1. Timed the engine, new plug wires eliminated a miss

2. Blew out the carb with all parts removed, set float to 5/16", added...

Re: Got my radio working!

First I did some reading online and determined which parts of the radio are most likely to fail. There are a couple resistors in the vibrator circuit, and a buffer capacitor. One of the resistors was...

Re: Got my radio working!

Yes, used a solid state. Kinda wierd not hearing the vibrator until it warmed up.

I've fixed quite a few vintage radios, but this is my first car radio repair.

Got my radio working!

The radio in my '50 hasn't worked in probably many years. I replaced the vibrator unit and a few capacitors, and a couple burned out resistors, and it works again! Probably less than $40 in parts and...

Re: Crash on M-14

If you're doing 70 on M-14 you'd better be in the right lane. That road runs 75-85 mph all day long and plenty of folks are doing 90. My '59 will do 75 mph all day long but I don't get close to any...

Re: 25 mph in high gear?

Sounds normal. Have you tried shifting to second at that speed? 25 is about where my '46 would want to downshift especially on a corner. 28 in a 25 zone was about right for 3rd, albeit illegal

Re: Crash on M-14

Yes, car was hit by a semi, lost control, rolled and burned. Had lap belts, sounds like that was a good thing.

Re: Common Rust problems on 1951 Ford?

Crash on M-14

The upside-down vehicle in about the fourth pic appears to be a vintage Ford even though the story calls it a "pickup". Can anyone tell what it is?

Re: Getting the new generation interested

Took my '50 Tudor to the dealership where it was bought new. Young sales guy took me to a desk and showed me a pic of a '50 another salesman used to have.

Re: '41 V8 no start hot

6.1V is not a good battery. In my experience they are close to 7V no load. They don't last long these days.

Re: Gas Tank-To seal or not to seal

Don't mess with welding on fuel tanks. Replace it or clean it out and run a filter.
