Re: Convert 1929 from Negative Ground back to Positive

Leave it negative ground, you are past the point of no return. :)

Re: Vulcan 1 cylinder head

Looks like it was cast to be able to add the distributor pin hole, just mark it and drill it.

Re: Main bearing bolts

The original bolts were a snug fit in the block. You would tighten up the nut, after positioning the cotter pin hole in the bolt for best installation. This snugness is what centers the main cap on...

Re: What the heck just happened ? (electrical)

I agree. Not to pile on here but if the car is positive ground your first connection of ground clamp to head bolt was reverse polarity and electronics usually if not always turn up their toes on that...

Re: What cranks are these?

Maybe some good cores but need work to determine if they are usable. None are counter weighted. :)

Re: Blocking manifold heater tube

They make a repair panel for that area, maybe you could fashion something from one of those? :)

Re: Spark Advance/Retard Mechanism

That is why the contact tip on the rotor is so wide.

Re: List of Reproduction "A" Parts That Don't Work

While Vintique can be very frustrating, think of all the things we use that we would not have otherwise. "You have to take the bitter with the sweet". :)

Re: Proper Valve springs for 296 cu.in. flathead with Howard cam M12

Never heard of that one. I would guess that it may be similar to the 425. Others here may have an answer. I was very happy with the 425, idle was good and it made power on a 296 with four 97's.

Re: Proper Valve springs for 296 cu.in. flathead with Howard cam M12

I ran Isky 185 springs on a Potvin 425 eliminator. It regularly turned over 7000 rpm at the drags never a problem. I agree that those double springs aren't worth the bother.

Re: Loss of power,

Distributor well grounded to block, lock bolt and nut tight? Engine, frame and battery all grounded together? The advance lever can act as a ground for distributor.

Re: High Compression Head

The "crowfoot" Winfield head is a good one, Jim Brierly's head looks good also. Both of these are different from each other. Harley put a lot of effort into their design making it worthy of...
