Re: Tell me this noise isn't what I'm afraid it is.

Some of us believe that floaters can last a long time, maybe approaching 'forever'. I think Ron posted recently about re-using old, original, floaters. Of course, he took a little flak over the...

Re: Tell me this noise isn't what I'm afraid it is.

59A crank uses full-floating rod bearings, as (most) all 32-48's have. Bearings cost more, and some 'talent' is required to properly fit them (so they will 'float'). 8BA crank uses rods with 'locked'...

Re: Tell me this noise isn't what I'm afraid it is.

Regarding different size pistons, and weights... it's been my experience that the piston suppliers I've used supply their pistons to the ORIGINAL weight, no matter the size. This has been for...

Re: Tell me this noise isn't what I'm afraid it is.

Back in the 'day', I did some checking on at least two flatheads that I had. I used the 'thread' method to check 'big-ends', then 'total'. Pistons were matched to 'originals', as I have never found...

Re: Tell me this noise isn't what I'm afraid it is.

Another thing to add to Kube's 'list'... I've never found in all of Craig's posts that the engine was ever balanced. I can't imagine, the way he drives it, WHY? Especially when it's considered that...

Re: Tell me this noise isn't what I'm afraid it is.

There's gotta be an explanation for all the material in the pan. Does the volume in the pan approximate what is missing from the bearings ? If not, keep looking. JMHO

Re: 46 to 48 convertible top information

My top, plus snaps, plus boot, all came from LB, about 14 yrs ago. Snaps are not anything special, and overall fit of top and boot is only so-so. It's only adequate.

Re: 46 to 48 convertible top information

Ive tried everything I can think of to fold the top on our 47. Every way seems to be wrong, and the boot does not want to go on.

Re: 35 trans to a 51' 8 ba engine

How about the flywheel choice? Ford 8ba will lead to a Ford clutch choice, and the Merc flywheel will lead to a different, Merc clutch choice. My personal choice for a clutch is the Merc version (6...

Re: 48 coupe- Question about how oil gets on the rear brakes

The 'guys', in particular Ken, Kube, & Bruce, have it nailed for you. What I didn't see mentioned... don't over-fill the rear-end. I've even seen old posts where it is suggested to leave the...

Re: Another Poll ~ Original Ford Barn ~

From my notes and stuff I saved, I've been here since the fall of 2000. I'm guessing that if there was a 'pre-Shelly', it must have been before. I found one note in my stuff that I was looking for...

Puzzled by the question. On my car, the rear fender attaches to the body (& running board, & gas tank cover). There is a bracket that reinforces the mounting for the tail light stand. Where would...
