Re: '40 hot air heater

Takes years to develop mesothelioma and by the time it's detected there is little time left. There is a growing number of us on death row from asbestos, takes me over 200mg of morphine to get through...

Re: Vacuum wipers won't go down

Reminds me of that commercial where the old boy drops his pill out the window and it falls into the open gas tank of the Fiat below......

Re: I think the engine in my truck is an 81A...

That's a Ford Canada 81A, lots of those in Canadian post-war trucks and cars as a smaller option because there were no six cylinder options until '56.

Re: 49-51 Front Inner Fender Wells

I think there is a small difference on the '51 where the park brake cable passes through.

Re: Electrical drain, battery won't maintain charge?

Hydraulic brake light switch can sometimes fail with the connection "made", but not able to pass enough current to light the bulb filaments.

Re: 8BA studs weeping-iron heads

Don't leave antifreeze in an open container for even a minute as pets will drink it and die a painful death.

Always enjoyed the discussions he could provoke, can it be that long ago?

Re: Canadian 1950 F-47 (F1) V8 Engine Color

I have a can of that Cummins beige, and to me, it's too much grey to match the Ford colour. The "RV white" that the motorhomes and travel trailers used is a lot closer.

Re: 40 pickup stock

Back in the late sixties, I put a tach on my '53 Customline Coupe, the only change necessary was the bulb to 6V and it seemed reasonably accurate as I recall. Tough to get it over 4000, but it...

Re: Full flow oil system/kits

If you are running a PCV system, it will suck a bit of dirty air into the engine around the dipstick and around the 8BA distributor unless you O ring it.

Re: 51 Ford light problems

The primary ground path is through the body and engine, not the frame. The only exception would be the need for a ground path for the frame on the older trucks where the tail/brake lights are mounted...

Re: Window regulator

The window moves toward the rear a bit before it starts down, and when rolling up, it will reach the top and then move forward, hence, the rollers.

Re: Death wobble

That would be my first guess, had a '33 many years ago that would do that on gravel roads sometimes. Well that was the best roads we had at that time. Used to call that "shimmy", death wobble was...

Re: 53 Ford Clutch Linkage Woes

I think there's supposed to be two halves of a bushing that fit around and "capture" a pivot ball and then slide into the tubular part of the linkage to make it all wobble free. This all fell apart...

Re: 51 Fordomatic torque converter hub needed

Jim, that hub will not fit up to an 8BA crank or an 8CM crank, the '51 and later 1BA and 1CM cranks have the larger recess machined to accept the O-Matic hub. That damage could have resulted from a...

Re: Why would someone do this?

196 IH four cyl was one bank of the 392 V8. Didn't run any rougher than any big four. 4 cyl Pontiac was also one side of the 389.

Re: Getting fuel from tank to fuel pump

Docs did a fluorcentisis on me yesterday morning and siphoned 1620 ml of fluid .out of my chest, that's more than 1 1/2 litres. 1/4 of a coke can ain't much to fuss about. Make up one of those pumps...

Re: Getting fuel from tank to fuel pump

I used a bus pump that has it's glass sediment bowl above the diaphragm and valves. It is always primed and my 35 1 1/2 Ton (engine factory rebuilt in Oct '47) started in 7 seconds after six months...

Re: Ford 1950 ring and pinion?

Cheaterpete, look for a '49 or '50 OD trans for the least problems with the swap. The '49 '50 and '51 are all 24" long, but the '51 has a few differences, the mount is wider, further forward and...

Re: canister oil filter

All Ford Canada 8RT truck engines had tall canisters for a filter maybe twice as long as the 8BA car engines.

Re: Sad, sad sad

Blowouts on the rear will cause sudden loss of steering control, far worse than a front blowout at speed. Few drivers get much experience dealing with tires that suddenly fail since the introduction...
