try RadioShack, they were condensors and went on the dist and on the generator, had one that plugged into the coil before the coil wire

what power steering pump did you use, chevy pumps put out more pressure than fords, they make ford steering quick and tweachy

check coil, condenser, rotor, coil wire and cap, your losing spark some where in one of those, change one thing at a time till you find the problem

have heads resurfaced litely, and check valve clearance, it looks like a couple of intakes are starting to burn, intakes should be black and if they start to turn tan they are starting to burn, and...

back firing usually means a lean condition, fuel running away from the jet in the carb on steep inclines, you might have your float set just a little low, try raising it just a little, don't raise it...

you have to be careful with those trans, you can knock a couple of teeth off the cluster gear, don't slam it in gear and pop the clutch to get second gear rubber, most early flatheads had 100 h/p or...

check the thrust washer on the main cap, if it has to much play the crank can walk back and forth causing the crank shaft to force the torque converter to put excessive pressure on the trans input...

one thing not mentioned about 1 wire altenators is they may not break connection when the motor is stopped, the alt may stay excited and run down your battery over nite, that has happened to me...

put a jet nozzle in the filler neck and sealed with a rag, squirt a little air pressure in the tank while a friend turns the engine over, some pumps just wont pick up fuel when new, be careful with...

you need to make sure every thing in the engine is well oiled, squirt mmo or some other oil in each cylinder, a lot of it. if the intake manifold is off put a lot of oil in each intake port, same...
