Perhaps this...

Re: 8BA Flathead Ford Crankshaft Pulley Install
Glad you were able to get the bolt out and then back in with no damage.
Don't worry. 55 ft. pounds will work fine.
There's insufficient engine vibration SO bolt won't loosen as the rubber...

Re: 8BA Flathead Ford Crankshaft Pulley Install
3twinridges's #16 post info. merits attention.

Re: 8BA Flathead Ford Crankshaft Pulley Install
70 ft. lbs is not harmful. I have a gut feeling it's best to leave it alone.
BUT, if your determined to loosen that bolt:
Is the emergency brake "On?
Did you fit a pipe over the breaker bar to...

Re: 8BA Flathead Ford Crankshaft Pulley Install
The discrepancy in torque values is probably due to the design and performance changes Ford made in the Ford and Merc. engines over the years such as horsepower, motor mount design, crank pulley and...

Re: Chassis/Frame number.
I believe the stars are used in place of numbers to designate the start and finish of the number series. That way no one can add numbers.

Re: 8BA Flathead Ford Crankshaft Pulley Install
You are "Good to go."
The 1949-51 Mercury Manual, Vol. 1 on page 72 states the following re: crankshaft pulley to crankshaft torque:
5/8-18 x 1 1/8 " cap screw: Mercury CM 130-145 ft. lbs. I...

Can you post a photo of the fan assembly you are working on?
Does it look like this? It comes with a grease fitting. I wonder if you could fill the internal assembly with Cornhead Grease as it...

Re: Swapping Engines
Seth is correct. Stick with the stock engine because everything fits as it should without any hassles. Installing an 8BA requires lots of modifications that snowball into a "project" requiring...

Re: Oil capacity clarification
4/11/24 Yes, I was surprised that the dip stick was stamped 8BA BUT, when I inserted it in the pan and filled it with 6 qts of water, the readings seem to make sense so I figured the 8BA dipstick...

Re: Swapping Engines

Re: Oil capacity clarification
Avoid the hacksaw as the kerf presents a perfect place for a crack to develop and eventually break the dip stick as it bends upon insertion and removal. Dimple is best.
