Re: Bench starting a '36 Flathead..have ???'s

For a 'temporary' resistor, I usually just use one from my junk pile. I have a variety of 55-74 chevy and Jeep ignition resistors for this purpose. If you happen to be a sbf or mopar fan, you would...

Re: 1954 ford car 223 6 no oil to rockers.

George, my Motor manual indicates there is a "oil feed line, from the block". Is this correct? It's been over 50 years since I've worked on one of these, and I certainly do not remember. If there...

Re: thermostats started when??

I don't feel like I'm an 'expert' on much of anything, and I do not know if t-stats were ORIGINALLY installed on 32, however, the green parts book lists replacement t-stats, and the application is...

Re: Crab distributor condensors

Per Ken and others, I've currently got the IH 200. Mine came in a SMP box (Standard Motor Products), since I don't have a napa store anywhere close. Before the IH 200, I used the 53-54 Chevy...

Re: Adjusting V8 Pressure Plate 09A-7563

I can't answer your question, but I assume the answer is very simple. I have a local Clutch Masters that has done this for me, several times. They have always done it while I stand & wait at the...

Re: What happened to my engine???

I'd be awfully nervous, not knowing more. I guess it's because (over many years) I've seen similar situations - repaired - only to have the same thing happen again, to another cylinder. I hope your...

Re: Lets talk reading sparkplugs....

Good 'trick', Ron. And, Bubba's chart tells more that many of us can absorb. Wish I had a 'wall-hanger' version of the chart.
'Course, what I find in a typical carbureted V8 is that you get a...

Re: Yet another "what's it worth" '37 (?) engine

Nothing more than opinion here... I recently sold a 37 engine, one that I have run many miles, no bad habits, didn't smoke or drink (overheat), good compression, and no signs of cracks, although I...

Re: 34 Mechanical Brake Retracting Spring

Couple years ago, I got some from Bill McGrath, Early Ford Store, San Dimas
909-305-1955 earlyfordstore.com
Also, Richard, Early V8 Garage, 626-338-2282 might be a source?

Re: Installing Hydraulic Brakes on 1933-1934

Here is a 33-34 M/C bracket that used to be available. I think the name was/is Ansen, but not sure. Good luck finding one, but should be able to make one from the picture. Uses original pedals.
(I...

Re: Boring a Flathead

I've asked before (years ago) about this... I don't think this was answered. Does the boring bar force the bore to line up with the crank c/l ? I don't think so, but never heard for sure. I'm also...

Someone once posted here... A good puller, similar to the Winfield/KRW design, but priced less (around a bill)... Try vintageprecision.com/products/hub_pullers

Re: '35 wheels

It doesn't sound like a 'deal' to me. It sounds more like you would be doing the seller a favor, by being a good guy and returning most or all of the money he has invested.
Price out a set of new...

Re: Improving Gas Mileage

I've kept mileage records on all my cars, forever. My experience pretty much supports what you are seeing, and also, what Lawson is saying. (I'm at 6000 ft, with a lot of 'up-and-down-the-hill'...

Re: 1934 Radiator leakage at top at higher load

Mr Flatjack... Try this idea - I'm not saying this is what happens, I'm just asking if this is a possibility... Increased load (same rpm) puts more demand on the engine (more throttle, more hp). ...

Re: 1934 Radiator leakage at top at higher load

Already covered, but my theory supports restricted flow. My 34 has the same symptoms... ok on level at 50-55 mph, but the slightest upgrade and increased load on the engine causes water to blow out...

Re: 1933-34 Potter Trunk Question

Re: 1934 Cordoba Grey Paint

I'd have to agree with above comment, but it's none of my business either. I've got some (so-called) cordoba grey that was mixed by one of the V8 Times advertisers, Color-ite, back when Ed was still...

Re: sludge plug source

In my opinion, you are making it too difficult. I believe you described the hole size that is for the Ford crank (??), and the Dorman number you give (555-010) is for the Merc crank. Any local good...

Re: What cleanout plugs for Merc crank?

As someone posted above... Dorman 555-010. However... Re-use the originals. Tap them (no drilling), slide-hammer them out. When you put them back in, stake. My engine-builder has been doing them...
