Re: Rootlieb speedster kit

Both are correct, but for the Rootlieb kit with the tank mounted using the supplied supports, the fuel level will be below the carb inlet unless you have a few gallons in it, as I quickly found out...

Re: Rootlieb speedster kit

Yes if you don’t want to keep the tank at least 1/2 full at all times to get reliable gravity flow. I run a small in-line electric pump and it works fine. Make sure the fuel cap is vented.

Re: Rope Wrap Steering Wheel

I just finished doing mine. The results are very similar to the OP. I used 3.5mm diameter braided jute. I looked into hemp, but the price was over 3 times that of jute and looks the same to me. A...

Re: Vortex intake

I don't have a spare one, sorry. I have been running one for several years with two Model B zenith carbs. It runs great but does take a bit longer to warm up than the stock single carb. ...

Re: Mystic Seaport pre 1930 Car Show

I'm planning to go! It will be chilly in the morning.

By the way, it is actually a "pre 1932" show. I was told that the change was made specifically to cover the Model A production run.

Miniature flathead 4-cylinder

I just came across this Youtube video today, a working model of a flathead 4. The arrangement is very close to our Model A engine. Inspired by it, perhaps?

Just the thing if you have one of those rare 5-cylinder engines!:D

Re: 7 Tooth Steering box question/request

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to modify the housing by counterboring if you want to use an o-ring?

Re: Driving Gloves

For a cheaper alternative you can look for gauntlet motorcycle gloves. They most often come in black though so don't look like the vintage brown ones.

Edit: Here's some in brown:

Re: Engine stumbles on acceleration

Oh, I missed that detail about the Tilly carb. My suggestion doesn't apply, I think.

Re: Engine stumbles on acceleration

It may be a long shot, but last year my car started running rough when accelerating and also had higher than normal fuel consumption. The cause was the compensator jet in the carb had come loose...

California 1935, Wilshire Blvd in color (remastered film)

You might have seen some of these remastered old films. This one is close to the Model A years, though I could spot only a few.

Re: trivial: new wiring harnesses etc. never really fit the posts they go on?

I’ve never measure them but I would guess it’s due to the harness using metric “equivalent “ terminals that don’t quite match up with inch-size posts.

Re: Lake Ice Saw

Yeah but look at the direction of the water spray. Maybe it is balanced so that it pushes the blade down?

Re: LED Headlights

FYI, if you have an iPhone, when taking photos you want to post turn the phone sideways, with the home button on the right side. Then you shouldn't have to rotate them later.

Re: Headlight "Load Equalizers"

My LED headlights can flicker, but my situation is somewhat unique.

My electrical system is 12V, with a stock Model A generator and a Fun Projects voltage regulator. I never drive at night, but I...

Re: (Yet Another) Electrical Question

That’s not an electrical question :)

The middle pistons (2 and 3) rise and fall together. So 3 can’t follow 2 in the firing order, it has to skip to 4.

Re: 12v from 3 brush Ford generator

Those would work also assuming they fit in the case. There is no reason you can't mount one remotely if you don't care about mimicking an original cutout.

Re: 12v from 3 brush Ford generator

Yes, but jwmckenzie is generally correct if your total power requirement is unchanged when switching to 12V.

For example, it you have a total of 60 watts of power requirement on a 6V system, the...

Re: 12v from 3 brush Ford generator

Actual part numbers can vary depending on the source. The simplest way to find them is to just google "10DN diode". Here are a couple of links I found:

Re: 12v from 3 brush Ford generator

OK, here are the pictures I promised. The diodes I used are for a Delco 10DN alternator. They are rated for 25 amps. Just google "10DN diode" and you can find them from various sources. I got...

Re: 12v from 3 brush Ford generator

That's right. The original-style cutouts are essentially a wire-wound relay, and are designed to operate at a specific voltage and/or current, so are not likely to work correctly on 12V. A diode...
