Re: E-brake Backing Plate Welding

On my e-brakes that toggle lever housing is swaged, not welded, to the plate. One was loose and very worn. I was able to swage a new housing (the exact Snyders part you referenced ) onto the plate...

Re: Workings of the Dash Light....

looking at the original question, he "pulled" on it. My dash light turns on by pushing on it.
I only pull on it to remove the cover for a bulb change. Perhaps the light is ok?

Re: OK! Let's get personal!

Recently turned 62. Got my A from my Dad, who bought it when I was 3 or 4, so I don't remember a time when it hasn't been around. It is the first car i ever drove - at age 11.

Re: Model A Pickup Beds

On mine, the bent corners were positioned in those 1/8" slots. keeps them from turning when you tighten the nuts.

Re: Young model A Driver.

Great video! Reminds me of the first time Dad let me drive the truck. I was 11, and I don't think I got out of first gear - but couldn't wait to try it again!

Re: Radiator restoration

Vinegar (acid) will clean out rust and scale deposits, while Draino type products (caustic) will clean out grease, sludge, and dirt deposits. I used both (separately) with great success on my old...

Re: 29 trk tailight bracket placement

On my original bed rail, the two holes are 1-1/2" apart center to center. they are 7-1/2 & 9" o.c. from the end of the rail, and 1" o.c. from the outer edge

Re: Two '29 Fords - a truck and a plane!

There were 199 made from 1926 - 33. I asked about survivors, and they told me they thought about a dozen were still flying.. Not bad for a plane over 80 years old. They were one of the first all...

Two '29 Fords - a truck and a plane!

Last weekend I had the opportunity to see and take a ride in a 1929 Ford Tri-motor plane. They let me drive the truck out by the plane for a photo! Very nice folks. Very memorable flight. We flew...

Re: Silver replaying of headlights

I too had good luck with the Caswell kit - very easy to do. The only catch is that because the plating is a bit thin, the result is only as good as the brass underneath - so if you really shine them...

Re: 30 PU test run before paint (VIDEO)

I still remember riding with my dad on the first street run! about 50 years ago - i was a little scared of the street going by underneath with no floorboards, but no way was I not going!

Re: New guy to the Barn - 1929 Model A

FYI...On 1/27/13 is the 44th annual Kaiser-Devereaux Collector Car Meet at the Venice Airport. There were over 1500 vehicles of every sort last year, including many A's. It's a free gathering with...

Re: Front radius ball bolts

Those bolts can be changed - with a lot of patience and nimble fingers/pliers - without removing the transmission. If you drop one into the housing, it can be retrieved with a strong magnet on the...

Re: Weakest link, engine

I think it's as you said: "totally worn out". Today's oiling systems are better, and use filters. Even with short oil change intervals, I think that there's probably a lot of stuff in the oil...

Re: Dielectric grease - need help

Dielectric grease withstands high temps better than regular grease, which means that, except for the engine area, there is really no reason regular grease isn't perfectly acceptable. All regular...

Re: Safer type antifreeze

The pink stuff for pools/RV & boat water systems doesn't have any corrosion inhibitors in it - not good for use in engines. I bought some propylene glycol based engine coolant at West Marine.

Re: Paint A Car With Rustoleum?

You might try Interlux "Brightside" one part polyurethane enamel. It's much more durable than Rustoleum, and will look sprayed if you use a small dense foam roller. (available at marine stores) It...
