Re: Stories from the good ol days ?? Anyone

Not surprised. I've watched it for a few years now. Always moves on to another subject.... Tell your friend to not hold his breath.

Re: 1951 F1 Spare Tire Mount Hardware

What size tire do you plan on putting under there? I spent quite a bit of time rounding up my hardware and freeing up the bolts, etc. Eventually I tried to mount my spare up under there one night...

Re: Split windshield F1?

Here's your picture. I agree it just simply doesn't look right. Definitely a post-production thing in my opinion as well. But if they were trying to hide the make of the truck, one would think...

Re: 51 f1 chatter

I am far from a tranny expert, but it sounds like you better check out the tranny. First and reverse share a common sliding gear. Something is not right. Take the transmission cover off and inspect...

Re: Whats the secret?

Wow, that's the cheapest I have seen them online. I am sure they're not as quality as the Mac ones, but it's one of those tools that you might just use once or twice.....

I have yet to walk into...

Re: Whats the secret?

You need a pair of these, and they're hard to find. You pretty much have to order them or buy them from a parts truck like Mac Tools, etc. They're called "horshoe snap ring pliers".

Re: Quick question

It's not a dumb question. Hook the positive to the positive on the battery and the negative to the negative post on the battery. The easiest way to remember that is you're essentially replacing the...

Re: Interesting ad from 1967

Very cool! Morristown is near me. I "googled" him and found this. Let me first say that I DESPISE topix, but this is too good not to pass along. It HAS to be the same guy. If it is, I'd bet his...

Re: Tracking car owners

Good luck. My 50 Custom came out of North Carolina, and we have the old North Carolina tags from just about 10 years ago. The fella who sold it to me was obviously very sick and dying at the time I...

Auto Theft Lock

From time to time, I check out Ford stuff in the odd places like gunbroker.com, etc. This "auto theft lock" has been on there for a while. Thought you guys might want to see it. I have no clue...

Re: Unpleasant Surprise :(

That's too bad. I had the rear main bearing go out in mine about 6 weeks ago. The front half of the ball separator blew out into the case and I found what was left of it hanging around the shaft,...

Re: Removing The Transmission On A `51 F1

Good piece of information to know in case the situation arises in the future.

Most definitely. I used a 2x6 on top of a well-placed jack stand.

Re: Removing The Transmission On A `51 F1

I took my tranny out about a month ago in a hurry late at night. Took about an hour and a half completely by myself. It's not bad at all.

Re: Removing The Transmission On A `51 F1

You have to take it out through the cab. Drop the drive shaft, remove the tranny cover, take out the seat (trust me, just four bolts), and bring it up through the floorboard. It's not very heavy. ...

Re: 1950 f1 front end wobble

I know you said you hit that thing at 45 mph, but you also mentioned running 65 mph. For the record, my truck feels like a boat with a sloppy rudder in a hurricane at 65 mph, so I'd doubt it has a...

Re: 1951 15" Pickup Wheel

Here's how you measure a bolt pattern:

As for your wheel, the ones that you need to look at are sold by LMC truck. Sure, you can use multiple...

Re: 1950 f1 wiper arm

I tried very hard to do the exact same thing. Looked everywhere. I even bought a universal short/adjustable wiper arm and one of those little adaptor kits that failed miserably. I finally just...

Re: Welding mask...

I got this one for Christmas (Santa bought it at Tractor Supply). Brand is "Metal Man", and it is just simply excellent. A little more expensive at $99, but it's probably worth it.

Re: 1950 f1 rear

That's a Dana 41 (which was the standard rear end of 1948-50 for these trucks). The curious thing about yours is the tag you found. Now I'm curious. The stock Dana 41's usually had a tag that said...

Re: 1950 f1 rear

48-50 F-1 rear ends are primarily Dana 41's with 3.73 ratios. I have four of them. One is behind an original flatty. It does well. I never have understood why Ford went to the 3.92 in 51 and 52. ...

Re: 1950 f1 rear

Not for those models.

ASSUMING that it is indeed a Dana 44 and is the original rear end, I am kind of surprised. The Dana 44's with the 3.92 weren't really used until 51-52.

Re: 1950 f1 rear

See if it has this "44" on the rear housing.

Re: What Is Wrong In These Pics?

That is a belief that I personally think has been proven to be unreliable. I own 4 truck engines (2 of which are still in their original trucks), and they all have 8BA heads. Some of the shoebox...

Re: 1948 ford pick up

Agreed. With my LD 3-speed and 3.73 rear end, I can run about 50-55 mph before it really starts feeling unstable. If you go for a 9 inch rear, I have a good friend over on FTE who would definitely...

Re: 1948 ford pick up

Yes, 3.73's were indeed stock in the Dana 41's that were in the 48-50 F-1's. My 49 F-1 has a Dana 41 with a 3.73. Climb under your truck and see if the metal tag is still attached to one of the...
