Re: Oh Hell...wiring again!
I'm not familiar with that setup, but thinking about it, it doesn't seem like the tail lights and the turn signals should be on the same circuit. I'm guessing that all the lights use the same ground...

Re: marvel mystery oil
MMO from my understanding, is a thin oil mixed with some detergents/solvents. While I've never used the stuff, the idea behind I feel is sound. With todays oils, I feel it's no longer as needed as it...

Re: Top Speed up Hill 25, Normal???
Depends on how steep the hill is. There's some hills near where I live that I have no trouble doing about 40-45, but I can think of one hill near by that's very steep that about 25 would be tops. If...

Re: Downshifting Stock 30????
Normally I try not to downshift much, luckily with the way these cars are geared and being able to adjust spark advance lets that work out for the most part. If I do have to down shift (traffic slows...

Re: chassis wipe down
I like to clean up the differential and that area with regular car wash soap. If it's really greasy, then I've used dish soap to cut the grease, then finish with car wash soap. I've had good luck...

Re: Cylinder Head Removal
My head didn't want to come off my car either...it'd only been on there for 50 years or so haha! I tried to make it come up with the studs in the block, then realized my problem was it was hanging up...

Re: Engine Oil
If I remember right, anything from straight 20 to 50 were ok in the manual based on outdoor temperatures. I think 20 was recommended in the winter, and 40 in the summer. Also if I remember right, in...

Re: Engine Oil
I doubt a 50wt would be needed for a Model A. I used to run straight 30, but have since moved on to running 15-40. If a straight 30 works ok, I'd hazard that a HDEO 10w-30 would even be an option in...

Re: Battery life
I had my Optima go belly up beginning of this year...which I was a little disappointed in. I put it in summer of 07 I believe. It's whole life it saw a generator and it normally read about 6 amps...

Re: gas mileage
In my Phaeton I can do about 20-22 if I keep my speed around 45...if I do 50-55 then it's about 18 MPG. It's been pretty consistent.

Re: STA-BIL Ethanol Treatment
I've used Stabil in my Model A before and I wasn't too impressed. Seemed to gum up my carb and that tank always ran a little rough until I got a fresh tank of gas in. Now I just put in a can of...

Re: Ford Barn Orphan?
For the most part, I like it keep it to something that would have been possible around that time frame. I've got a high compression head, 6 volt alternator, and sealed beam headlights. It's also got...

Re: tire recomendation and other questions
I put a set of Universal tires on my A awhile back. I was expecting to have to get them balanced, but I took it up to 60 and was still pretty smooth. I was pretty surprised, I figured it would...

Re: Torque value for head
I was chasing down an issue with my Model A running hot and overheating randomly. When it would get hot, I noticed the bubbling in the radiator. I stopped up the overflow tube, put a wet piece of...

Re: cold garage
I generally just run a 50/50 mix with green coolant. I change it out every few years, no issues with rust or freezing that way. If you really don't want to use it, draining it should be ok.

Re: Turn Signals in Front (or Back) You decide
If you could find a way to make them solid amber, all one color without the divider between the brake and taillights, it'd look alright. I can't say it's something that I would do, but I do...

Picturing the proposed color scheme in my head, it sounds pretty good. Not something that you see everyday I feel like it would go with the colors. If you're not going for a perfect points car, then...

Re: what to do with fuel for winter
I've always filled it up to the top, added a can of Seafoam and normally I get lucky and the weather will break and I can run it every month or so. My tank is rust free and no problems.

I do the same as Bill when coming to a hard stop to help negate the problem. Mine used to do it at all stops, but then I took the carb apart, cleaned everything out. Soaked it in carb cleaner and...

Re: Distilled Water in Radiator
I've been running 50/50 plain green coolant in my car ever since I got it. My grandpa, who had it before me, always used water. I flushed it using some NAPA products to get a lot of the grime out,...
