'33 back on the road, time to move on
After limping my '33 home from a drive some time ago and some diagnostics, I pulled off the distributor, filed and adjusted the points and it was back on the road running wonderfully.
Now I am free...

Re: Rear axle end play
I was doing a check on a friend's work on his '26 some time ago and noticed that he had not put the fiber spacer on the end of the axle shafts. I am not sure however that it would cause the problem...

Perpetual sandblasting-or-Rust never sleeps
Just because I see the humor in it all.
I should be aggressively moving forward on the full restoration of my 1951 barn find Mercury Sport Sedan. Yeah I know it looks great in the pictures but...

Re: Spring drive-limped home
Thanks for all the help and comments.
To answer some of the questions:
Yes I do have the original hydrostatic gauge unit. It functions well but I am getting ready to add some more fluid as much...

Spring drive-limped home
After a wonderful drive in my 1933 sedan, it began sputtering home. I made it to my driveway but it said "no thank you" to the steep incline to my garage.
It is a fuel issue in or near the gas...

Re: Time for a new sandblast window
You are right about that. I was out of covers and it was a Sunday so i fashioned a plexiglass cover temporarily so I could get back to work. I have to get my model T wheels ready so send off for...

Re: Sits a week, won't start
Our '47 has the same problem. We put on an electric pump to prime but eventually it wouldn't even run on the mechanical at all. I checked the pump push rod length and it is ok and even put on a...

Re: refilling hydrostatic gauges
Of course you are right and sorry for the "s". Obviously the temp portion is not hydrostatic.
Unfortunately over the 80+ years since the temp gauge was made it has become a bit lower than I would...

Re: refilling hydrostatic gauges
Thanks a lot for the help. Fortunately mine aren't empty, just inaccurate since they are low. On the Black Hills tour with the Early V8 club a year and a 1/2 ago I had the pleasure of running out of...

refilling hydrostatic gauges
It is time to add more fluid to the 2 hydrostatic gauges on my '33.
They were relatively easy to fill appropriately at restoration as the gas tank and radiator were both empty. Over the years,...

Re: Wall of cars
It has taken almost 50 years to restore what you see there. I was a boy working with my dad when we started the '27 T (my father's birth year).
I was hardly present for the '29 model A as I was in...

Wall of cars
I wish the picture could have turned out a bit better, but the photo resolution is just too low.
It is a bit hard to work in my home office when I can turn around and be distracted.
I have a big...

Re: sub floor letters/numbers...
It looks as though the stamp is on the metal the surround the pedals. Is that correct? I know Henry Ford made his parts subcontractors pack the parts shipped to him in crates that he could then use...

the first thing I would check is the air pressure in the front tires. Although underlying issues mentioned above are most likely, I have found that even slightly under inflated tires will accentuate...

For a while, when I begin to start my '33 moving in reverse, it can "kick" and jump similarly to what many cars can do when there are clutch problems. However, I don't feel any other indication of...

Here is a restored coil/plug/lightbulb tester that I use all the time. It also is good for continuity testing though I don't really use it for that.

Re: How to refill master cylinder?
Loosen the locknut, pull the pin and twist.......we don't need no stinkin hydronic fluid.... Of course the '33 doesn't stop that well either.

My dad always said that "its the chase that counts". He loved the study more than he ever loved the finished cars. I have to confess I do too. This post got me studying. I pulled out an old copy of...
