Re: '40 Headliner Bow Numbers?

Removing the tar is not that bad; hot air gun, putty knife, and follow up with a rag and laquer thinner. Once the tar gets soft, it rolls right up.

Re: anyone have an authentic 60HP '40 Ford

I always thought mine may have been a 60 originally, but it had a 59AB in it when I bought it in 62. Is there a way to tell once the engine is gone?

Re: '40 Headliner Bow Numbers?

I found my headliner and bows finally, so I thought I might be able to post some pics to add to Fred As post. I'm probably too late to help Fred, but maybe someone else will benefit. There are a...

Re: Are 37 through 40 Ford dashes mounted in the same manner

More of a HAMB topic ,but I would think 37 to 39 might be close because all have tip out windshield, 40 dash is different.

Re: No Camshaft

Thanks for posting that, Ron. More exciting than the prospect of electric cars. I assume all the valve action is computer controlled.

Re: Everything you wanted to know about oil

Thanks, Ron, good comparison info. I have run Amsoil for years and I have found that it doesn't cause leaks, but if you have a small one it will find it.

Re: The problems with painting in stages

Yes, on any paint that is now referred to as single stage, if it is catalyzed or not. However there are some manufacturers limits ( recomendations) as to the maximum thickness (mils) that the...

Re: The problems with painting in stages

Yes, that is exactly what it means. The tint is not exact to the shade you have chosen, but it is red or blue, etc; depending on your topcoat color. In PPG the K36 is tintable and there are others in...

Re: Has any one had issues with Bradley Floor pans company ?

My experience is similar to others as far as the wait, but I would use Pauls pans again. I would just allow more lead time. He is pretty much a 1 man band down there and I know ,from conversations we...

Re: Who sells 40 wheel opening bead sections?

I bought some of the ones on e--y; they were shorter sections, but fairly accurate. I'll look to find his contact info. Sorry I lost the info from my emails.

Re: 1940 Convertible Top Color?

Beautiful paint; i saw a 40 conv at the Auburn EFV8 meet that had the black top/ red piping. It was outstanding. I should have a pic somewhere. If I can find it, I'll post it. Sorry, it was black on...

Re: putting the leaf spring back together

I read this as how do I connect the spring to the shackles/ rear housing. If so, I'd clamp the spring ( big c-clamp) install the all-thread with nuts finger tight then remove the clamp and slowly...

Re: 1940 Hot Air Heater:

It seems likely you would get some engine orders at least, but I've never been in a car with one. I was lucky; my car had a hot water heater in it when I bought it. I know they can be pricey now.

Re: Front axle to radius rod bolt replacement?

I agree, Tom. Heat will probably be required or a press or a BFH or a combination of all. If I had to do another set I will try the heat and wax method.

Re: Hi Speed rear end For flathead Questions??

I have a Columbia and I would use it rather than a single rear gear ratio; unless there was a 5 speed conversion that used the torque tube ( similar to the setup that was described above).

Re: Relibility question. New guy.

I agree, read the books Henry suggested. There is a lot of info on what is productive and what is not so for a FH on the street. This can save you money and time. I'd personally go 12V, but many here...

Re: KR Wilson 6050 B1 tool fly cutter piece

You would need " spot facing " cutters as all end mills and shell mills have a small angle on the bottom of the flute from the cutter od to the center of the cutter. When they are plunged to a depth...

Re: Metal to Metal sealer

On the inside of my car, I used the Hirsch Miracle Paint after removing the Ford "tar". I think POR 15 would work also. I'm useing paintable seam sealer on all the body and floor pan seams.

Re: Stripping One layer of paint at the time.

It's likely enamel so I'd try acylic enamel thinner on a small area first. If that's not successful, I'd use low grade, fast drying laquer thinner and wipe across the finish quickly. When the outer...
