I'd check the fuel pump rod. I had one where the baffle came loose in the pump stand and did as you describe.

Welcome Todd, 48 coupes are the best. The guys here will help you with any questions you have. My coupe is currently in the shop for a valve job and new clutch. Hope to be back on the road soon.

I run Diamond backs on my '48 coupe. I've kept them at 35# since day one and no problems.

I'm having the exact same experience with my my '48 coupe. I haven't had time to really investigate the source of the tap. I'll follow your post to see if you find the source. Thanks for posting.
