Re: How to test '36 voltage cutout off the car?

Thanks. Do you know the regular max battery voltage for a 6V battery?

Re: How to test '36 voltage cutout off the car?

Thanks. It's fun to do. And nice to have an almost 90 year old part working again and back on the car.

Re: How to test '36 voltage cutout off the car?

I got the outer part off of the cutout. Took some time.... The points were pretty corroded, I sanded them down. Points and the air gap above the magnet were adjusted according Steve's input in his...

Re: '36 221 - rebuildable??

Thanks for the input! I do visit the US on a regular basis, so it shouldnt be too hard to source one. Preferable the smaller chamber size indeed.

What confuses me so far is that some claim a...

Re: '36 221 - rebuildable??

I'm getting mixed input on this issue (on other Flathead platforms). I'd say 50-50 on whether a difference in chamber size is right or not.

One chamber measures 95cc, the other 82cc. One response...

Re: '36 221 - rebuildable??

Well, I think we passed the point of no return.🫣 We have all the parts already. Main bearings, rod bearings, another good used camshaft, crankshaft almost done machining, etc. I got most parts for a...

Re: '36 221 - rebuildable??

Thanks. The rebuilder doesn't want to use these pair of heads cause of the difference in compression. They're very precise with stuff like that. Seems I'll be looking for a matching head...

Re: '36 221 - rebuildable??

Long time since the last update. The block has been decked and is ready to be honed .040 over. The crankshaft will soon be back from the grinder. .010 under on the mains and rod journals. The...

Re: How to test '36 voltage cutout off the car?

Thanks both!

Steve, great video! I already ran into a few on your generator rebuilds. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, much appreciated.

I'll see if I can test it if I can find a variable...

How to test '36 voltage cutout off the car?

We're working on a 36 Sedan that hasn't driven since end of the 60s. Engine is being rebuild and I'm working in it's different components.

I cleaned up the (probably original) voltage cutout that...

'36 distributor rebuild questions

I'm rebuilding a late 36 distributor, almost have it finished.

I was wondering what the max gap may be between the rotor and the cap contacts.

And is the washer supposed to go all the way over...

Re: 40 coupe with 59AB?? Lots of questions.[emoji16]

Ok, we did some more work.

We got the other head off (passenger side) as well. That one was much harder. Also not so bad overall, though the 2 aft cylinders had some light debris and surface rust...

Haven't tried yet. You lay a pencil on the ridge of the block, just above the distributor?

Re: 40 coupe with 59AB?? Lots of questions.[emoji16]

That's definately our intention! Might take a few weeks.

We're also working on a 36 Sedan with the original LB engine. That one looked terrible when we pulled the heads. Turned out to be...

Re: 40 coupe with 59AB?? Lots of questions.[emoji16]

No, in that picture I had just taken the gasket off. The gasket had the trapezium shaped openings though the block has the round holes in the center.

40 coupe with 59AB?? Lots of questions.[emoji16]

We're working on my brother's 40 standard coupe, freshly imported from Texas to The Netherlands. Has been off the roads probably since end of the 60s. I took the intake and drivers side head off...

Re: Tap rod bearings into shape??

Yeah, I have NOS rods and the rebuilder prefers to stick to undersize on the crank only.

Ha, that's a coincidence. I just saw your video when looking for more info on those floating bearings. Thanks for the info.

I just talked to the rebuilder. They're not that familiar with...

Tap rod bearings into shape??

I got .010 undersize rod bearings for the 36 LB engine we're rebuilding/having rebuild. Part 48-6211-C. (.010 under, STD on the rod)

The rebuilder says they don't fit the rods. Neither of them....

Kurt, any chance I could get a better resolution of that photo of the parts book? When I download it, I can't read it.
