I have driven a few hundred miles since using the original type oil breather cap and it is venting better and minimal dripping coming out of the draft tube.

There’s someone I found that remakes these hinges better than the weak originals. They are fairly expensive - around $500 per pair at the time. I put them on my Merc and they are good.

My friend and I just took one from his 46 Ford and was able to open it up from the front. He pulled the needle off and then there were 2 screws to take out.

New pistons, .06 bore, crankshaft ground, valve job, break in oil 30 wt non-det.
Engine overhauled 2014. Not driven until body work done and painted in 2019. Had a repaint...

I took it back to the shop that overhauled it. It turned out he put a part on the shifting valve in the wrong slot. Now it works fine. Thanks all for your input.
