Re: Model A and T Upholsterers

There is always two sides to every story. Mike generally goes out of his way to help folks out. That fact makes me wonder.

A good trim guy knows where to purchase materials for his trade....

Re: Electric Model A's

It would have to be a pickup just to haul that battery around. I could see it on a Shay model A but the original stuff being modified, it might as well be a hot rod.

Re: Fuse blowing

The lights won't affect the fuse if they are off. The dash light can be an exception depending on type. The wire can rub up against the fuel tank in some situations. The brake light is another one...

Re: spark plugs

I use AC-Delco 10-5055 gear marking compound. I found it wipes & transfers better than prussion blue.

Now days it seems you have to write down stuff for spark plugs like thread type, reach, and...

Re: Storage

In the military and for military contracts, fogging with a slurry of Black Bear Par-Al-Ketone and other preservatives to provide a relatively long term anti-corrosion coating for storage of engines...

Re: what is this? mag drive?

All the Lycomings and Continentals I've ever worked on had cam driven mags. They use an idler on one to keep direction of rotation the same. Drive off the cam is 1:1 and the cam runs at half of crank...

Re: Little Bell mounted on firewall of 1932 Ford

Loud whistles, a backfire coil for the exhaust, and smoke generators were common on the old wheelie popping model T clown cars. Add a bell along with a whistle and it truly has all the bells and...

Re: what is this? mag drive?

The gearing should be 1:1 for a mag or distributor and that gear looks smaller. It might be better suited for a governor of sorts or driving something else.

Re: 6V to 12V converter

Inverters lose some energy in the conversion which would further tax an already low output charging system.

Re: model A airplane carburetor?

The oiling modifications by Bernard Pietenpol were extensive to get full pressure to the mains. The original oil return from the side was deleted so all it needed was a plain cover plate. That one...

Re: model A airplane carburetor?

The Stromberg-Bendix NR-A series of carburetors was common in the early years of aviation. The NA-R3 would have been one of the smallest of the type produced that still had a manual mixture control....

Re: Old ford mount

Since 6038 was a basic number then different prefix or suffix can designate a design change. A photo, a good illustration, or knowing what it fit would be the only way to identify which of many it...

Re: Frame numbers

Neither the B block nor the V8 block had serial numbers stamped on unless done by an outside source. The B numbers were stamped above where the starter bolts in on top of the flywheel housing. The...

Re: beneath the'31 PU floor mat is???

The felt may need some type of preservative applied to the edge areas that are exposed. Felt can deteriorate over time. Perhaps some type of oil or grease would help. Leather might have been a better...

I don't know if you have an open car or a closed one but check out this link. It has a lot of info. I hope it helps.

Re: U Joint info

If it is still fairly tight (and not crusty inside) some model A person may want it for originality.

Re: Cluster Gear ID

Part straight cut spur gears puts it in the pre-1936 area for passenger cars. Pickups may have had spur gears for a bit longer but most went to helical after the start of the 1936 model year.

Re: Front fender cracking out

I learned a lot from David Gardner's tutorial DVD (Classic Metal Shaping) but I've noticed that he no longer produces it. He uses oxy-acetylene like I do. I already had the welding down but his metal...

Re: beneath the'31 PU floor mat is???

Ford only sealed around the edges of the floor boards and that column & pedal plate had the felt pad. They didn't use a jute mat pad yet like they did in later years. The throttle pedal rod had a...

Re: Lincoln OD Transmission

That long actuator rod is a rare bear. Someone will likely want that solenoid. The R10 parts for the closed drive are also valuable to Lincoln owners. Even the governor would have value.

The...

Re: Ecklers hydraulic brake conversion kit

There are equipment traders here in the US that deal with manufacturing equipment. To scrap it would be a shame. I'd be surprised if no one would want it. Getting it moved is expensive but it still...
