I have continued doing some looking on the internet and still haven't seen any without the nubs. It has also stumped a couple folks I know who are very knowledgable about the early V8's.

Not sure if the threads want to be oiled or dry when torque-ing, or if that is even a factor, but it seems like that may affect it. Maybe someone here has better information on this.

Taken off of my 39 pickup build which was a nice truck when I started.
They seem to work, they have resistance, are not stuck, and I hear oil squishing around inside when I move...

Serial numbers start with 87H
Lower casting number is 78-7006-17
Shifts from gear to gear smoothly and nicely with a postitve detent feel to it.

Great info. As long as I have owned this car I believed it was a 312.

I just checked the vin and it starts with an "M".

Did the t-birds come with both sizes also ??
