Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Geekers Skip, do I have to do EVERYTHING the hard way? :) The socket was just grab and go. Besides it's hardened. And while I was gyping out with an offshore socket for a spacer I decided to just...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

No worries at all. I just came back to the house now and read the original and the edit at the same time. I plan on masking all the openings to the inside of the alternator and cutting into it on the...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

So the boss on the pass side was too thick, so you took some off the back side? Did you use a spacer on the opposite side? I'll take a walk down to the shop to see what's up with mine. Thanks both of...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I'm quite confused by the slingshot bracket as used on an 8ba manifold. I have 2 different ones here. Online it looks like most vendors sell the same bracket for early or late flatheads. One listed...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Mart there are actually four of them. Schaefer stretch, Mt Baker road, the Olga flats and Bartel road. These are the four straightaways with a 40 mph speed limit on our 58 sq mile island. My friend...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

There is a mis match of sizes but in this case the step opens up into a larger bore so not sure the step is a problem. Either way I should have an opportunity to try both carbs out this summer,

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

The standard 8ba carb is in pieces having a soak. I spiked the new style berrymans carb dip with a quart of naptha from the paint department. Carb dips are so lame these days. Then I set the later...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

To my surprise I only had the one regular 8ba carb. The throttle bushings show some wear but I found this never assembled earlier carb with a note says "rebuilt 2015, never assembled". Could I use...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Well, I better get down there and get out the 8' step ladder as I have a bunch of carbs in a plastic milk crate on a high shelf, and a few more tucked into spaces here and there. I have a can of...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Pete, you've done it again! Mart, that is the pictured carb atop that orange intake at the top of this page, so I do know it fits. Also, in re-reading Fred's suggestion I determined he is not...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Absolutely as discovered. I know nothing whatsoever about where or when I got this. Most likely it came with the boxes of parts associated with my large block purchase. I would say from the looks of...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

That's a good plan. The woodie has a great carb on it right now and I always have them removed when hoisting an engine, so there will be two carbs just sitting there.Oh wait I just thought about the...

Snuck into town this afternoon in the ragged ol tonner. That 226 runs real nice and is smooth and quiet. The T-9 crunch-box makes more noise than the...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Last week a friend stopped by to see this project of mine and he asked me when I thought I'd be firing it up for the first time. He suggested that a first start up of something like this is the...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Thanks Pete, It's been kinda like an easter egg hunt going through all the boxes and shelves to come up with what I need. By and large I have been quite surprised I found as many of the parts...

Re: Early ford oil pump id

I found this the other day while looking for some 8ba stuff. I have no use for it if somebody wants it.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Here's a pic of some of the parts I have accumulated so far. Among items not shown are an 18" four bladed fan and an 18" six blade fan with steel arms/hub and aluminum paddles. The one seen mounted...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Wow thanks everybody! And Denny, how can I turn that down? Really nice of you. I put in a real day in the cabinetshop as the 'non' natives (summerfolk) are getting restless about how their projects...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Here's a rather different question this morning. I need about 30 more head bolts to make a set. A few steps away from my project engine is a 59ab that runs quite well and came as a running engine in...

Re: Condenser

Thanks Pete and Rotorwrench. I saw some used aircraft condensors on ebay. Mostly from Bendix mags. Apparently they get switched out at a certain number of hours use. Seem's the aviation world...

Re: What is this ?

Maybe like TJ suggested, it's just something not plumbed into the brakes at all. Maybe an oil filter or pressure gauge line taking the long way around?

Beautiful job Tim! I'd love to see a couple shots of the whole car too.
