Re: Ford Tools

Oh crap. I come home hoping to forget about work on the Barn, and the first thing I see is a work tool.

Re: Help rebulding Model A cowl

Thanks, Flop. that was great reading and very informative. For one, I can tell I'm in for a bigger project than I thought before I read your post!

Help rebulding Model A cowl

So I'm a newby with a '29 Sport Coupe, and the cowl is fairly clean but some cancer in the lower regions. I'd like to hear what some of you guys normally do. The door post section and upper...

Re: Model A steering box

Thanks but I've already got a good F-100, just looking for the flange pattern to make it bolt up to the A-bone frame.

Model A steering box

Looking for an old steering box that I can use as a template to modify an F-100 steering box and column. Doesn't need to be working. I just need to get the angle and bolt hole position so it sits on...

Re: Hollow valve lifters worth it?

Just so I'm clear guys, I was more concerned with hollow vs. solid. I have to admit the little voice in my head told me some of the Drake parts are made in the same factory as Harbor Freights...

Re: Hollow valve lifters worth it?

Hal - I'm not that old school. Don't feel like dusting solid lifters down to size, but they're welcome to continue doing it that way. Besides, Johnson's are not new tech, so I'd argue adjustables...

Re: Hollow valve lifters worth it?

Sorry, been out of contact for a while. The engine needed a rebuild, and I hated to do it, but I sent the Johnson lifters that came in the block to Patricks in Casa Grande AZ, and he didn't recommend...

Re: Hollow valve lifters worth it?

Thank you all for the input, I'll stick with the solids. I had the same concerns as Karl. Getting cheaply made fenders is one thing, High speed rotating and reciprocating parts is another.

Hollow valve lifters worth it?

I bought a rebuld kit for my 8RT engine from Patrick's that included solid adjustable lifters. There still new in the box. Nothing wrong with them, but I see Drake's has the hollow adjustables on...

Re: Friend bought his first flathead what do you think

I got hosed on my first flatty, an 8BA. I bought it long distance - my fault - and it was advertized as a running engine. Not likely. It was seized from rusting in one of the cylinders, and the...

Re: Is my Model A buggy spring OK?

Sorry, I probably shouldn't have done that. Sammy put me in contact with you last year. I was swapping some parts with another Ford Barner in California, and he was looking for some roadster doors.

Re: Is my Model A buggy spring OK?

Thanks, Mike V, Juggler (Andrew, isn't it?), and popcorn-guy. As a newbie, I figure it's best to ask rather than assume. I'm thinking I'll donate the old spring leaves to the community college...

Re: Radiator Mounting Holes

Correct, the slotted holes were for later years. I just had this conversation with my local Model A bone yard after buying a front crossmember from So-Cal. Incidentally, despite what their counter...

Re: Is my Model A buggy spring OK?

Thanks. Are those measurements under load or freestanding? I think I'm in trouble either way, but I'd like to know for future.

Is my Model A buggy spring OK?

I guess I'm thinking this is to be expected for an 80 year old spring, but then again, I'm FNG.

This is what my rear spring leaves look like close up and off the car. Can our panel of experts...

Re: model a frame dimensions & identification

Sorry, I didn't notice Brent had already mentioned the errors. I checked out Steve's website, (excellant, BTW) but it would take a lot of parsing through docs, and I'm not convinced I will find what...

Re: model a frame dimensions & identification

Randy / Cape / Steve - actually, everyone. Randy's drawing is the Wescott drawing (Wescottauto.com). While a lot of us appreciate having it avaialble, it seems to me there are errors and omissions....

Re: 40 Ford truck helper springs? Whatzit?

I wonder if it was the same as the lower set of leaves in your picture, but for some reason they were moved over the axle?

Re: 40 Ford truck helper springs? Whatzit?

That's not really it, Al. The springs in my picture were literally on top of the axles, not on the perched behind the axle. That's what I thought was so weird about them. Like I said, the yokes...

40 Ford truck helper springs? Whatzit?

These came off of a 40 Ford truck rear end. The best I can think is, maybe they are helper springs? Should have taken a picture before I took everything apart -coulda, shoulda, woulda.

The spring...

Re: 1938 - 1940 Ford Banjo Rear End

I got one locally out of a 1940 truck. Thanks anyway. I'll probably be posting the springs and radius arms for sale soon.

Enjoy Good Guys, the weather's been great this week.

Re: 1938 - 1940 Ford Banjo Rear End

Sorry about the confusion, but I am a FNG. Apparently the 1940 rear end will work perfectly. Hit me up if you have one that you keep tripping over in your garage. Thx.
