an old trick. put section of a nylon stocking in the rad hose entering the rad. sometimes lots of "stuff" is captured.

You may wish to look at a product called Evapo-Rust. It's a liquid. Found some at Harbor Frieght. About $25/gal. There is a web-site .

I like the original paper gasket.
torque to about 20 ft-lbs. Cork will not take that much torque.
