Re: Helping Get Rid of Sound a Bit

I don’t think any of the mats are a good idea on the inside of the quarter panels as there is the risk of holding dirt and dust between them. Personally I would make sure it is completely dry and...

Re: drivers side door latch

I wanted to do it when I was restoring my 55. They just weren't practical for me due to drama with the door lock mechanism. Not that difficult to fit but you would probably need to lock the doors...

Re: Parts Books

Some years back I bought manuals for 55 and 56 Ford from Detroit Iron www.detroitirinis.com
I converted them to straight PDF book using Adobe Acrobat. Meant I didn't have to load the cd to read the...

Re: leak at water pump mounting gasket

When fitting the thermostat housing to the manifold make sure your bolts are not too long. They will bottom out in the hole. I chased a leak there for ages before I realised the bolt was about 1/32"...

Re: 1955 fuel gauge sender

I just thought I'd update the drama with my 55 fuel gauge. I replaced my sender with a universal sender from Carpenters that lists as being for 32-55 Fords 6 or 12 volt. Absolutely no change. I sent...

Re: 1955/56 ford door interchange

Whilst I was restoring my 55 Tudor I fitted 56 door locks to a door hoping to have the safer 56 latches. When I closed the door the star wheel hit the B pillar and would not close. I already had the...

Re: power brakes

I fitted a 7" dual diaphragm booster with a corvette master cylinder. I used a set of 57 Chev booster brackets which kicked the booster up at a bit of an angle which provides adequate clearance of...

Re: C4 to block bolt size needed

I think the bolt diameter is 7/16" UNC. Length is as mentioned.

Re: Australian 54 customline info

If the negative side of the coil is going to the distributor it is indeed wired negative earth. From what I could make of the picture with the condenser it looked like it was connected to the...

Re: Australian 54 customline info

Connected to the coil is a condenser, capacitor or whatever else you want to call it. They were used to suppress static interference from the ignition system which played havoc with the radio. Your...

Re: 56 Vctoria Vin Decode

Canada used a different numbering system than the US. Cars in Australia have the same codes. If you go on the Australian Customlines and Mainline page on Facebook there are guys on that site that can...

Re: How to attach an engine lift plate to intake manifold?

I lifted my yblock and fordomatic out as one unit using a home made plate bolted to a four bolt inlet manifold and refitted it the same way. I drilled the vertical plate of my lifting plate with...

Re: 1955 fuel gauge sender

Gee I'm glad I'm glad I've stirred some discussion.
Having driven the car for a couple of trips, the gauge is certainly strange now to say the least. It takes almost 5 minutes for the gauge to...

Re: 1955 fuel gauge sender

I might as well stick with regulator ive got.
The other part of my question was the delay before the gauge starts to work. It takes probably 2 minutes before it registers as far as it will go when...

Re: 1955 fuel gauge sender

Thanks for the replies. What you have all said makes sense to me. The sender is fitted to my 55 Customline Tudor Sedan. I've had no experience with the 55s before this car. My other cars were/are...

Re: 1955 fuel gauge sender

The procedure for the sender is specific to fuel tank depth. There is no adjustment in the float arm that i can see. The gauge is also very slow to start reading once ignition is turned on.

Re: mini starter opinions

The ring gear may be alright with the mini starter as they work on the front edge of the ring gear unlike the original.

Re: Aftermarket starter motor 272 Y block

That's the same one that I bought out of the states. Very easy fit, though as I said on another post it is only supported by the two ears that you bolt it through. Worked alright though, I just...

Re: mini starter opinions

I bought and installed the same mini starter as you have when I was restoring my 55 292 FMX setup. Much easier to bolt up but I didn't like that when it was in situ the only support the starter has...

Re: points coil 272 y

It truly does not seem to be a Y block distributor. Is the shaft from mounting flange to the bottom the same length as the loadamatic. C5 on the distributor says it is a 1965. Y blocks stopped...
